Brown hair?

Hello guys! I have been thinking lately and the ombre hair trend is booming into the salons.
I really want it try and it and I did look for some DIY on YouTube but I didn't think I'd be able to do it :/
I'm just really scared that it's not going to work out and I'll have to keep it on for like weeks..
Anyways so after a lot of thinking I have come to a decision that I will be coloring my hair light brown. My natural color is black so I was thinking I'd try brown. I don't do much of coloring and highlighting my hair but I thought why not try it for once?
So give me some advice and I'll refer to it! :)
